Carlton Observatory NASA ARLISS Event

On Friday, October 18, 2024, at 11:30:14 AM PDT, a student from the TEACH – NW (Charter School) will be communicating with ISS crewmember will be Sunita Williams via Amateur (HAM) radio on the east side of the Space Museum.

What is ARLISS: ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) has been an active STEM organization for more than 25 years. ARISS engages students at the K-12 level and beyond by connecting them with astronauts through live conversations between the ground and the ISS. Educators can apply for space station contacts twice a year. This process is free and allows students to engage in real-life STEM activities. If accepted, students talk to directly with astronauts on the ISS as they fly 250 miles above us!

 

When: The event will begin at 1055. Communications with ISS will be from 11:30:14 AM PDT to 11:40:00 PDT

Where: This will all be outside space on the berm and simulcast to the Galaxy Theater.

Run of Event Details:  The guests and supporters will arrive at 7:00 AM to start set up.

·         10:55 – Streaming Begins - Start live stream for remote users

  • 11:20 – Pre-AOS Preparation and  Initial Signal Test: Call ISS for signal test and greet astronaut

  • 11:30 – AOS: Students ask questions, managed by timing between each question. 10 Minutes

  • 11:40 – Wrap Up:

  • 12:00: End Live Streaming

  • 12:30 – Event Close

  • 13:00 – Shutdown and Cleanup
